Grand Canyon Trip
Once again Dr Rowen and I went into the Grand Canyon for 5 days. This trip was much different since the our descent from Huitzel point was “Off Trail” there was no hiking path to lead us into the bottom of the canyon.  We spent the first 2 days lowering our packs down steep ledges, using ropes to rappel and circum navigating narrow ledges with over a 1000 foot drop into the bottom of the canyon! It was very grueling trip. We only saw one other group during our 5 days and this party of several young men were turning back because it was too tough. The interesting part of this trip was it was led by Bob Green who is a 72 year old macular degeneration patient at the Healing the Eye and Wellness Center! This should prove to you that macular degeneration should not restrict your activities. Bob Green has been using microcurrent since August 2008 to help improve his eye sight to continue his hiking in the grand canyon.

Evidence that Microcurrent has a Neuro-protective effect in the treatment of glaucoma!
An article was published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine based on research done at the Department of Optometry and Radiology at Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Glaucoma was induced in the right eye of 14 adult rats using laser photocoagulation. ( This causes scaring and build up of glaucoma pressure in the eye)  The left eye was used as a control. The animals were divided into 3 groups.  One group no treatment, the second group electroacupuncture   using 2 Hz and the third group 100 Hz.  The eyes received 3  treatment sessions each week for 4 weeks.  The visual function was studied using Electroretinalgram measurements. (ERG)
There was no neuroprotection in the untreated group and the group using 100 Hz. In the group using the 2 Hz wave form there was a retinal protective effect when measuring changes in the retinal wave forms.
The authors conclude that electro acupuncture of 2 HZ provides neuro-protection by preserving retinal function  in rats.  Low frequency EA may be an alternative therapy in the treatment of glaucoma
I have been using microcurrent since 1999 for the treatment of glaucoma. The mechanism of action is felt to be 3 fold; improving blood flow, stimulating cellular activity and reducing inflammation and scar tissue.  Now there is research evidence that microcurrent has a protective effect on the optic nerve. Why is this important? The problem with glaucoma is not so much the pressure in the eye but the effect the pressure has on blood flow to the optic nerve. Patients with glaucoma have a compromised optic nerve. Elevations in pressure can cause the blood flow to the optic nerve to be reduced resulting in damage to the nerve and loss of vision. This is why microcurrent can be so beneficial to patients with glaucoma. It helps to increase blood flow, stimulates cellular activity and now there is evidence of a neuro-protective effect.

FLU UPDATE! Will history repeat itself?  During the summer of 1918 the incidence and severity of the Spanish Influenza declined and the population became very complacent.  The flu resurfaced with a vengeance in the fall of 1918. Many epidemiologists are cautioning that the flu may reemerge in the fall. Be prepared!  Homeopathy has a proven success in the treatment of every epidemic since 1813! There was a mortality of 28.2% in the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 under allopathic or traditional care, and under homeopathic care the mortality was only 1.05%!! VIDEO OF MY HOMEOPATHIC TALK

Questions from patients:
Dr. Kondrot   For some time I have reckoned that coumadin use can cause the bleeding of wet AMDG.  I have not found much written about this, but I believe my husband has had this experience.  Can you give an opinion on this.I would appreciate your opinion.   Ida  F.

Dear Ida
Eye doctors shudder when they find out when their macular degeneration patients are taking Coumadin. This greatly increases your risk of developing the more serious form of wet macular degeneration. It is very serious when you begin to take Coumadin and there are many articles which have documented an increase in hemorrhage with patients who are taking coumidin.

Warfarin-related bleeding incidence on the rise
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS. Warfarin (Coumadin) therapy is a major cause of internal bleeding and hemorrhagic stroke. The risk increases substantially with higher doses (elevated INR value) and with the concomitant use of other anticoagulants or medications that potentiate warfarin’s action. Researchers at the Harvard Medical School now report that the incidence of warfarin-related major bleeding and intracranial hemorrhage (hemorrhagic stroke) among patients admitted to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital has increased substantially from the 4-year period 1995-1998 to the 4-year period 1999-2002. Among the highlights of the findings are:

  • The annual incidence of warfarin-related bleeding increased by 22% between the two time periods.
  • The proportion of patients with major bleeding increased from 20.2% to 33.3% and that of intracranial bleeding from 1.9% to 7.8%.
  • The proportion of warfarin-treated patients who had an INR value higher than the intended range was 57% in the first time period and 59% in the second.

Dr. Robert Rowen, editor of Second Opinion makes the following statement regarding the alternative treatment of Coumadin, “I have used Dr. Gordon’s EDD (3 capsules a day), either nattokinase or lumbrokinase (1 capsule twice a day), gingko, omega 3, and vitamin E (Unique E 1200IU)) for years and have never seen anyone (in a few hundred) develop a thrombus, including atrial fibrillation patients.
Here is Dr. Rowen’s protocol. BUT I CAUTION YOU NEVER BEGIN THIS PROGRAM UNLESS YOU ARE UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF AN ALTERNATE DOCTOR. SHOW HIM THIS LIST AND DISCUSS THIS ALTERANTIVE TREATMENT.
Essential Daily Defense 3 capsules three times a day
Nattokinase 100 mg three times a day
Ginkgo biloba  120  mg twice a day
Omega 3 1000 mg a day
Vitamin E  1200 IU

Blepharitis
Do you have any homeopathic remedy which you recommend for people with Blepharitis?
Thanks for letting me know and keep up the great work!

Elena R.

Dear Elena,

Blepharitis can cause a real annoying problem with the eyes with itching, burning and light sensitivity.  Alternative therapies can help! Blepharitis is a chronic condition related to an underlying infection of the eyelids and often associated with dry eyes.  As a homeopathic doctor I believe it is necessary to treat  the underlying problem. DO NOT use antibiotics or steroids! These medications  suppress the cause of the problem and there is also the danger of developing resistant bacterial organisms.

The first step is good lid hygiene.Use nightly lid scrubs with diluted baby shampoo (50% water and 50% baby shampoo)  and gently scrub the margin of the eyelashes.
Shift your diet towards organic living foods and avoid all processed food/ preservatives.
Drink plenty of water- proper hydration is the best way to detoxify your body. The rule of thumb is to drink ½ of your body weight in OZ. of water.
Keep your eyes lubricated. I suggest using Homeopathic dry eye drops.
You might try eye compresses or eye soaks using Euphrasia or Eyebright Tea.  Obtain some Euphrasia tea bags and soak them in hot water. Use a clean cloth and soak your eyes twice a day for 10 to 15 minutes.
Begin taking extra omega 3 fatty acids. This will help to reduce the inflammation of your eyelids.
